The village of Mark is set in the heart of the Somerset countryside, ten miles from Bridgwater. It lies near the source of the river Mark Yeo, in the county’s Sedgemoor district. Wander into the village centre from your holiday cottage in Mark, and you will discover a peaceful rural community, with a small grocery, a post office, and a village hall. There are two pubs, both of which serve good food and a selection of local ales and ciders. The parish church of St Mark dates back to the 13th century, and is a listed building. Self-catering holidays in Mark are popular among walkers, thanks to the glorious countryside surrounding the village. Several footpaths can be joined from the village, and followed into idyllic woods and fields. The limestone hills, caves and historic sites of the Mendips Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty lie to the village’s north, and a stretch of the Somerset coast is a short drive away, with sandy beaches and views across the Bristol Channel, towards Wales. For a day by the sea, head to Weston-super-Mare, a charming resort with a sandy shore and plenty of amusements.
