We loved the cottage - the location was beautiful. It was bigger than we were expecting and we had plenty of room. The kitchen was very well equipped and we very much enjoyed the open fire in the lounge.

Mrs Day

A good location and the owners were very helpful - dog sitting service was first class.

Mr Gray

We thought the location was excellent - very quiet and beautiful views on the approach to the cottage. Very good centre for the Peak District.

Mrs Brixton

The views and surroundings were great.

Mr Sherwood

The location of the cottage and the immediate environment for peace and quiet. It was very comfortable and cosy. There were lots of areas for long or short safe woodland and hillside/valley walks. Very beautiful 'old' English countryside. Very friendly and approachable owners nearby who helped us plan our walks and pointed out places of interest with great knowledge of their locality. A very nice outside area to sit out on the sunnier mornings and evenings.

Mrs Mcphail

This is a MUST stay at property superb in every way. If anyone is thinking of a family holiday or just a short break away this accommodation offers everything you could wish for. Short commute to Alton Towers for families, superb walks for ramblers or guests with pets, fabulous local country pubs, supermarkets near by. One of the best family holidays I have ever had.We would certainly visit again, we would give it 5*.

Mrs Davies

We especially loved the coal fire. The accommodation was of a high standard and was warm & cosy. The kitchen was very well kitted out & a lot of the things were in there; cleaning products, foil etc. We will go back as it's close to relatives & has a great setting, down a track off a quiet single track road. The view is amazing too.

Mrs Turner

It was nice to be in the country, without the distractions of the city. The accommodation was first class. Definitely recommended. I'll certainly be going back in the future.

Mr Hinds

The cottage felt particularly safe and comfortable. The neighbours and owners were extremely helpful. The proximity to Alton Towers was fantastic and such an easy journey, yet felt like we were still having our countryside holiday. The woodland walks were fantastic and to do them from the door was amazing.

Mrs Logan

It was a last minute booking but the hosts had everything ready on arrival. Quiet location with fantastic views and in close proximity to Alton Towers which made the children very happy.

Mrs Harris

Cute cottage, lovely setting, cosy log fire!!

Spent several days here with my brother and sister-in-law over the New Year period and we all thought the cottage was lovely! Gorgeous walks in all directions, all the usual amenities and that log fire to give it a relaxing atmosphere. Would love to come back in the summer. Owners were very helpful and welcoming. Our kids had a lovely time.

Cottage in ideal location but ...

Theresa J

great cottage, lovely area & quiet

Loved the cottage, appreciated the wildlife, especially the owl. Fantastic location. 8 year old son & 14y.o daughter loved the holiday too. There are no fences, which if the description is read properly mentions this along with "free roaming fowl and livestock" if you have well trained & well behaved dogs/kids this should not be a problem. I arrived to the property & left the property in a clean state. If the previous guest had a problem then I am sure the owners would have done something about it. I found the owners very welcoming & pleasant. would love to come back oneday. Love the ability to see all the stars at night. Dogs loved it too.

Great New Years Break

We stayed at Barks Cottage for a short New Years break for 4 nights at the end of December. We left it late to book anywhere but luckily they had the dates available. We were attracted by the fact its pet friendly and the location just on the edge of the Peak District. It's a new area for us, but we really enjoyed it.

The cottage is lovely, tucked down a track in the quiet Hamlet of Moneystone, yet not far from Oakamoor, Cheadle and Alton. There were 2 adults and 1 Border Collie. The cottage is 2 bedroomed and has a large kitchen, large dining/lounge and a good bathroom with a large shower. The real fire was lovely and a bonus. The supply of logs was very generous. Most cottages give you the 1st basket free, but that usually consists of 6 logs!! We probably only used half the logs provided and had a fire every night.

The kitchen is really well equipped with a good dishwasher, full sized oven and a fridge freezer. The lounge had a brilliant 32 inch TV which also makes a change! It was also nice to have a decent supply of essentials like condiments, cleaning materials etc.

We are walkers and this cottage didn't let us down in that sense! There are loads of walks from the door (the track is actually a public footpath) and the walks in the area are lovely. We walked approx 10 miles each day, didn't touch the car and hardly met anyone which is nice when you have a slightly grumpy dog!

James and Catherine were lovely people. The booking process was simple and they live next door if you have any problems. They also keep hens and ducks if you want eggs, you can purchase some. A nice touch was a bottle of Champagne waiting for us to celebrate the New Year. There are nearby supermarkets and shops in Cheadle which is only a 10 min drive away if you need it. They also offer pet sitting services, though we didn't use them.

All in all a lovely break in a really nice cottage. Thank you!

We liked it because it catered for all the elements of a holiday that we were in search of eg close to Alton Towers, good walking, local villages/pubs and shops. The accommodation suited us for what we wanted on this type of break.

Mr Sharp

Very comfortable accommodation. Peaceful rural location but close enough to the main routes for local attractions. The owners were very helpful.

Mr Sharp

We all had a really lovely holiday. The cottage was perfect, very comfortable. I haven't slept so well for ages. Our hosts were very kind and helpful in suggesting places to visit. They have thought of everything to make Barks Cottage a great place to stay and we shall certainly be booking up again to stay there next year.
