About the location

Kettlewell 5 miles; Hawes 12 miles.

Nestling at the foot of Buckden Pike, near the head of Upper Wharfedale, this idyllic village makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale. Much of Upper Wharfedale is National Trust owned – an indication of the beauty of its classic countryside, with dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valleyside woodland. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking areas in the Dales with The Dales Way passing nearby. The village itself comprises a cluster of stone-built cottages and houses with a traditional green at its centre. A perfect location for a holiday!

The house was perfect for a family requiring five comfortable bedrooms, two separate lounges and a large, warm kitchen seating ten people round a large kitchen table. It is sited in a lovely village with a welcoming pub and shop in wonderful walking country and scenery. What more does one want?

Mr Pearson

The cottage is in a great position for exploring the Dales by foot or car, and having a pub almost on our doorstep was very convenient. The cottage was large but still retained a cosy feel to it and was very comfortable.

Mrs Tyler

A lovely farm house which was well equipped, perfect for large family party of all ages. It was well situated with fantastic walks from the house.

Mrs Hayden

Liked everything! The Farmhouse has been refurbished and this was deeply appreciated by members of our party, especially the showers and kitchen. The pub next door is brilliant and the inhabitants friendly, plus the fact that any description of the Dales cannot do them justice.

Mr Chisholm

The new bathrooms and kitchen are fabulous. The house is very well equipped and is spacious but also feels homely.

Mrs Orton

Liked the situation in the centre of the village and all its amenities. Also, the log burners in both rooms made it very cosy. The big kitchen table seated 11 of us very comfortably and the Aga was great for warming the plates and also drying our clothes after a thorough soaking whilst walking the Dales Way.

Large Comfortable House in Beautiful Countryside

We rented this cottage for my husband's 60th birthday - We invited some of our friends. We all had the best of times. We had the birthday meal at the restaurant attached to the village shop - it was brilliant. Plenty of other places to eat in the village, all very good. Did some lovely walks straight from the house and must return some day to do some more.
The cottage was huge - lovely family kitchen where we all ate breakfast together. Lovely bedrooms and 2 living rooms. so plenty of room for all.
Recommend this cottage and hope to return, maybe for MY 60th!!

Lovely dales House.

A lovely cottage in a lovely Yorkshire Dale, Only 2 mins walk from the Buck which serves excellent food. There are several walks in the area for all ranging fronm the challenging to the afternoon stroll. The cottage as plenty of room the we found the second lounge a great escape from the TV.
We been to this cottage twice never been disappointed, booked again for this year.

Clifford House family holday, superb location, well equipped.

Lovely property, well equipped for large party, lovely and warm, fantastic walks direct from property.
Great walks within easy driving distance.
Walks of all types for all abilitys.
On suite really weird, a shower in a bedroom but hey ho it worked.
Superb warm, large kitchen.

A cracking weekend

The ouse was excellent for our needs. Enough bedrooms to sleep us all. Games to keep us entertained, a week functioned kitchen. Wood and fire to keep us warm.
From the village we were able to walk straight out of the house on to an excellent walk along the Dale tops without needing a car.
Only downside - its a shame the pub has closed down - hope it reopens soon.

Lovely cottage with the Dales on your doorstep

Lovely cottage. Very comfortable and clean. A garden would have made it slightly better as we had small children and couldn't use the patio which was at the end of the lane. It is however in a lovely peaceful spot right next to the Dales way and Buckden Pike. Easy driving distance to the Three Peaks, Skipton, Bolton Castle, Leyburn, Hawes.

Very cold, caretaker had not turned heating on,owner did not know

The house was very nice ,once we had got it warm and that took 3 day's,so not the best start to a holiday, with young grandchildren.Buckden is very nice, pity about the buck inn,as we were looking forward to eating there,no food and very run down. What we liked best was the wonderful kitchen ,and the very large table, and the only warm place to sit !.least never go there in the winter, unless the owner has told the caretaker to put the heating on.

A great place to stay.

I stayed with my two sons, daughter-in-law and a bunch of Matt's mates from Australia. They were over for fell walking from pub to pub, with about 15 miles of rugged hill between. Jen and I were backup drivers, delivering to the departure point (pub) and collecting them from destination (pub), where they were watching the WorldCup Rugby tournament. Another reason for their visit. Jen was mummy to them all, while we both did the shopping daily, and enjoyed excellent pub lunches in the area. while the lads were hiking the hills. We took our turn in cooking the evening meal, in the well appointed kitchen while they watched more rugby on the TV. Plenty of room for the 8 of us, plus we celebrated Matt's Grandpa' 99 'th birthday with other family members including my other daughter-in-law, Granddaughter, and first wife. A very large kitchen table and two comfortable living rooms, one with a wood burner making a cosy warm atmosphere. Lovely place to stay: could not fault it, and two minutes from the Buck Inn. I would revisit if I could!

We rented Clifford House Farm to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. It is large enough to accommodate all four children and partners plus grandchildren. The space is terrific. Both sitting rooms large enough to fit us all in, but also allowed some quiet space when needed. The kitchen is huge and well equipped, with a table to seat 12 people comfortably. Lovely views from just about all windows.

It is tucked just behind the Buck Inn, sadly closed at present, but that meant it was very quiet.

The owners are really helpful and go to any lengths to make you feel welcome.

All in all and excellent holiday.

Fabulous Accommodation

We gathered family here; three siblings, spouses and others for a reunion. The accommodations far exceeded our expectations and the location was perfect for all. The kitchen was well equipped and stocked with ample cutlery and crockery for our large group. We didn't light the fire or wood burning stove but it was ready to use.
Having 3 bathrooms was great as well as 2 lounge spaces. Having a house full didn't feel claustrophobic because the space was well utilized.
Convenient for Grassington, Skipton, Hawes and Leyburn the location gave plenty of options available for those that didn't want to walk.
It's unfortunate that The Buck Inn is closed because it left nowhere to eat locally for an evening meal. However the White Lion in Cray was amazing.
This property is ideal for large groups, walkers or sightseers.

Lovely house for a break with the extended family

We booked Cliiford House Farm because we wanted somewhere where we could get together with our four children, their respective other halves and our granddaughter, plus two dogs. It worked really well. The house is very comfortable, in good decorative order, with a well equipped kitchen and with good quality linen provided. The welcome tray on arrival with tea, coffee, biscuits and milk in the fridge was a nice touch. The nine of us, plus baby enjoyed memorable communal meals around the large farmhouse kitchen table, and there was plenty of comfortable sitting space in either of the two lounges. The weather during our stay was poor, and we appreciated the efficient heating!

Christopher/Ann... B

Location good for walking straight from the cottage. Lots of things to do and see within driving distance. Fountains Abbey excellent - spent a whole day there.

We were totally impressed with the cottage...The village is lovely and picturesque and we had a lovely walk along the river to Kettlewell which is about 4 miles to see the Scarecrow festival which is held there.

A thouroughly wonderful location and excellent standard of accomodation. Nice to have all the comforts of home including DVD player and DVDs to watch as well as amazing fires.

Miss Edwards

The Buck Inn does the best 'Haddock & chips'.
Lots of space for 2 families in the house.

Miss Collingwood

A great location for walking. The owner was extremely helpful...

Mrs Beard

Cosy accommodation, perfect for a walking holiday base. An excellent location for access to the Dales in general.

Mr Spence

The farmhouse was great for what we needed, i.e. a large group of people coming from a number of locations to spend time together in the middle of the Dales.

Mr Unnuk

The location was excellent for walking either at a low level along the river or up on the hills. The property overall was lovely and spacious and well equipped. The large dining table in the kitchen was lovely for family gatherings and gave a really homely feel.

Mr Frewin

The house was well equipped and comfortable and well situated for walks directly from the house.

Mrs Barton

Excellent property - very well equipped and situated. Availability of fuel for fires very much appreciated!

Mrs Davidson

The location of the cottage was ideal for walking in the Dales. The cottage was lovely, providing great accomodation for three families.

Mrs Stanton

The area, which is fantastic, the space in the house for a large group, the fact that the house felt warm on entry (due to the rayburn being on before we arrived), and that despite very cold weather, we were always comfortable.
This is a house where you immediately feel at home, and the ability to have real fires is great.

Mr Snow

Great location, comfortable warm cottage with all the necessary amenities.

Ms Dahlstrom

The size of the property for 10 adults was ideal - a great location and it was lovely and warm.

Mrs Bownass

The cottage was an excellent size for a party of 10, with plenty of room to escape from the 'madding crowd' if necessary. The kitchen was homely and an excellent place to congregate round the table. The location was beautiful. General cleanliness was excellent.

Mrs Ross

The cottage was in a lovely position and just the right size for our needs. It was comfortable and warm and had a really friendly feel about it. We all enjoyed the holiday very much, especially visiting the restaurant attached to the village shop, which was just round the corner.

Mrs Allsopp

All the facilities were of a good standard. The linen and beds were very comfortable. Open fires were also excellent.

Mr Burrows

Great place, great company, great weather, great food and an excellent cottage. What more could anyone want?

Mr Carlson

A very enjoyable holiday. House situated in a beautiful part of Wharfedale with walks direct from door - choice of 3 completely different places to eat - all within 3 minutes walk and all meals absolutely delicious. House was large and comfortable - lots of olde character and everyone had a lovely time. Recommended to our friends and we will visit again, hopefully. - BRILLIANT!!!!

Mrs Rust

Very clean and felt very spacious even though there were 9 of us. Tea/coffee/biscuits waiting for us on arrival was a nice touch!

Mr Batho

The house is ideal for a group holiday, spacious and comfortable.
In a beautiful location with great walks from the village.
We found both Sykes Cottages and the owner very helpful.
There are some excellent pubs close by, with very good food (and good beer!)
We'd be happy to stay at Clifford House Farm again, and will definitely be using Sykes Cottages for future holidays.

Mrs Kelly

Good location, good weather, good accommodation. Well equipped kitchen. Two lounges for watching TV or quiet reading also appreciated.

Mr Law

Wonderful location! So many walking possibilities from the doorstep. A lovely, warm and welcoming cottage.
Very helpful owner.

Ms Lasseron

Lovely big family kitchen, always warm, even in the bitter cold, due to the AGA style appliance. The real heart of the property. The house was big enough to have a holiday with lots of family members yet still enough room to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. Superb walks straight from the house.

Mrs Dewhurst

Everything - we had a great time, the house worked very well for us.

Mr Foster

Good location - Buckden is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, felt like we were really getting away from it all. Clifford House Farm was very nice to stay in.

Mr Evans

The cottage was spacious even with the full complement of eleven people. The location offered outstanding views of the Yorkshire Dales with plenty of walks on the doorstep.

Mr Middleton

The farmhouse was brilliant for us. There was plenty of space and we were all pleased with the layout and facilities. The closeness to the pike was fantastic and meant it was easy to walk the dogs. Food in the village was lovely and despite the weather we managed to get walks and picnics in. It was particularly good for families as when you were at one end of the house those at the other end couldn't hear any noise!

Miss Poole

We liked the location - very quiet and peaceful.

Miss Crawford

Fantastic location, with lots of walks on the doorstep. There were 11 of us so it was great for a family get together.

Mrs Lawty

The location of the cottage was excellent. The village very friendly. The countryside around Buckden is stunning.

Over 11 years of walking, this was the best property we have had. Clifford House had everything we required and the Buck Inn round the corner made you very welcome. Would certainly recommend it.
